AREAS OF PRACTICE
Dedicated – Fair – Responsive
Indianapolis based attorney, Cody Cogswell, is first and foremost a Hoosier. He was born and raised through most of his childhood in Moonsville, Indiana on his Grandparents’ and Great Grandparents’ farm. Cody graduated from Anderson High School with an Academic Honors Diploma before attending Ball State University. He graduated from the Political Science Department’s Legal Studies Program at Ball State University and was accepted to Thomas M. Cooley School of Law where he was awarded a Scholarship for Academic Performance. At Cooley Law, he was a member of the U.S. Championship Team for Client Counseling and Graduated Cum Laude with a specialization in Litigation in January of 2012 and shortly thereafter passed the bar and was admitted to practice in Indiana.
Cody Cogswell passed on several opportunities to practice law as an associate in big firms in Indianapolis but instead chose to return to his hometown of Anderson, IN to begin his own law practice. Cody Cogswell first began practicing in attorney Daniel Whitehead’s office before stepping out on his own after only 11 months. Within his first year in law practice in Anderson, Cody worked on many criminal cases (from Murders and A Felonies to Misdemeanors and Infractions) as well as many family law cases (ranging from Divorces to Custody Modifications to 4D Child support actions).
In Cody’s second year of practicing law, he shared office space with seasoned attorney, Charles Braddock, in the Anderson Union Building, and quickly he and Charlie moved to a 1200 sq. ft. top floor suite in the tallest building in Anderson to accommodate the influx of work. Cody went from one employee to five employees, adding attorneys to the office and eventually forming a partnership with other attorneys including attorney Christopher Gilley.
This progress continued into his third year of practice adding one more partner to the firm, attorney, Robert Summerfield, and formed CGS Law Group with the hopes of better serving all of their clients (which now ranged to nearly every county in central Indiana). The office grew from 1200 sq. ft. to 3200 sq. ft. adding another 3 employees and was able to reprioritize his focus in practicing primarily in matters of family law. In August of 2014, Cody returned to Ball State University in Muncie, IN as a Professor in the Legal Studies Department.
Nearing the end of 2015, Cody bought out another firm in Carmel, IN to more effectively serve the growing number of Hamilton County (Noblesville / Fishers / Carmel) and Marion County (Indianapolis) clients. This acquisition added another attorney and paralegal to my firm then forming Cogswell & Associates.
Cody’s focus is “to go the extra mile for his clients” and finds he is “often successful just because he is able to out-work the opposing party”. If you are looking for someone who is going to fight for you and your family, then Cody Cogswell is your guy. Cody is very team oriented in making sure there is a paralegal assigned to each case to always know what is happening in each case at any given time so there is always someone with whom you can discuss your case.
Cody Cogswell is an attorney licensed in the State of Indiana and the Federal Court, Indiana, Southern District.
